Back to Lexicon Entries List Ebert, Friedrich (1871-1925) First President of the Weimar Republic In 1913 Ebert succeeded Ferdinand Bebel as Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, and led it until he became President. During his period of office, he suppressed political threats from the right as well as from the left. For the Nazis he was an object of hatred long after his death in 1925. Back to top
