Back to Lexicon Entries List Liermann, Max (1847-1935) Painter and leader of Impressionism in Germany In 1920, he was elected president of the Prussian Academy for the Arts, and in 1928 he became its honorary president, holding this post until deposed by the Nazis in 1933. Liebermann supported the establishment of the Cultural League ( Kulturbund ). After his death in 1935, the Cultural League in Berlin held a memorial exhibition of his works. Back to top
