Ruppin, Arthur (1876-1943)

Zionist leader, economist, and sociologist
Born in Germany, he settled in Palestine in 1908 and was appointed to head the Palestine Office in Jaffa, subsequently the country's main settlement institution. After World War I, Ruppin continued to oversee the Jewish settlement endeavour in Palestine. In 1933-1935, he chaired the Jewish Agency Executive in Jerusalem and headed the department that took in immigrants from Germany.
